On 11 June 2026, Binance announced $250,000 in humanitarian funding to support the frontline response to the ongoing Ebola outbreak spreading across eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and into Uganda. Health systems in both countries are under acute pressure.
The funding will be split equally between the Uganda Red Cross Society and Doctors Without Borders / Médecins Sans Frontières(MSF). Both organisations are already operating in affected communities.
Richard Teng, co-CEO of Binance, explained the decision directly. “Communities across Africa continue to show extraordinary resilience in the face of complex challenges, but frontline responders should not have to face crises like this alone,” he said. “We are proud to support both the Uganda Red Cross Society and MSF as they work to protect vulnerable populations and strengthen local response efforts.”
Why This Outbreak Is Different
The Bundibugyo virus causes this particular outbreak — a strain of Ebola for which no approved vaccine or specific treatment currently exists. That absence makes containment efforts even more critical. Without medical countermeasures, the entire burden falls on community response, isolation protocols, and the speed of frontline intervention.
The outbreak began in eastern DRC but has since crossed the border into Uganda. That spread across health zones and national boundaries is what makes this moment urgent.
Where the Money Goes
Binance’s $250,000 contribution will fund several critical response activities. These include emergency medical care and treatment, community awareness and prevention campaigns, contact tracing and containment support, and the provision of sanitation supplies and protective equipment for frontline health workers.
Robert Kwesiga, Secretary General of the Uganda Red Cross Society, welcomed the support. He said. “The support from Binance comes in so timely and handy, and will help us respond more rapidly, reach more at-risk communities, and reinforce the frontline services needed to help contain the outbreak and save lives.”
Binance’s Broader Commitment to Africa
This commitment is not a one-off response. It reflects a broader pattern of Binance engaging with humanitarian and development issues across the African continent. Beyond emergency funding, Binance has supported programmes focused on education, financial access, and community development across multiple African markets through its charity arm.
However, this particular intervention is notable because it is urgent, specific, and directed at a crisis that is unfolding in real time.

Editorial Takeaway
Ebola in eastern DRC and Uganda is not a future risk. It is a present emergency. The Bundibugyo virus has no vaccine. The affected communities already face limited healthcare access.
In that context, Binance’s $250,000 commitment, channelled through two of the world’s most experienced emergency responders, is not a symbolic gesture. It is practical, targeted support at a moment when speed matters.
For a crypto company with deep roots in Africa, this is also a statement about what showing up for the continent actually looks like.
