Binance founder Changpeng Zhao, popularly known as CZ, has offered an unusually personal glimpse into his fitness routine, sharing a shirtless gym selfie while reflecting on health, family, and wealth.
In a post published on X on October 7, CZ joked that posting a “half-naked” photo was not his usual style before revealing that he is 49 and saying the image was produced without AI or Photoshop.
“Also 49, no AI, no photoshop, pure human labor.”
CZ then shifted the conversation away from his physique and toward what he considers a more meaningful form of competition.
“I encourage people to compete on health, not wealth rankings or lambos.”
He concluded:
“More health, more family = true wealth, and happiness.”
CZ’s unusual crypto post
The post stands out from the usual content associated with one of crypto’s most recognizable figures.
Rather than discussing Bitcoin, BNB, markets, or regulation, CZ used the photo to make a broader point about how people measure success.
His message was essentially that financial wealth should not be the only scoreboard people use.
For someone who has spent much of his career operating at the intersection of cryptocurrency and global wealth creation, the contrast was notable: instead of showing off financial success, CZ chose to show off physical health.
The post quickly attracted attention, with CZ’s unusual appearance and message generating discussion among crypto users.
‘No AI, no Photoshop’
CZ anticipated one obvious reaction to the photograph: skepticism over whether the image had been digitally altered.
He specifically stated that there was “no AI” and “no photoshop”, describing the physique as the result of “pure human labor.”
According to reports around the post, Binance co-founder Yi He later responded to the photograph, saying she could confirm that it was the original image. CZ also reportedly told a commenter that he had not used beauty filters and that the photograph was taken with the phone’s original camera.

The image itself became part of the story, with commenters focusing on CZ’s physical condition at 49 as much as his message about health.
From wealth rankings to health rankings
CZ’s reference to wealth rankings and Lamborghinis appears to be a deliberate contrast with the way success is often displayed within crypto.
The industry has long been associated with visible displays of wealth, from luxury cars and watches to private jets, expensive homes, and screenshots of trading gains.
Crypto’s most successful founders and traders can become celebrities in their own right, with net-worth estimates and token holdings frequently becoming part of the conversation.
CZ’s message proposes a different metric.
Instead of asking who has accumulated the most money, compete over who is healthiest, he suggested.
That philosophy also puts family at the center of his definition of success.
“More health, more family” was the formula CZ offered for what he described as “true wealth, and happiness.”

The timing behind CZ’s post
CZ’s post also appears to have been inspired by another 49-year-old sharing a fitness-related post.
Former Miami Mayor Francis Suarez posted a workout video around his 49th birthday, saying he was one year away from turning 50 and encouraging people to reach out for training, health, and wellness tips. CZ subsequently shared his own fitness photograph, noting that he was also 49.
CZ did not explicitly identify Suarez as the inspiration for his post.
Nevertheless, the timing created an interesting coincidence between two prominent figures using their 49th birthdays to highlight physical fitness.
CZ’s changing public image
The post also offers another glimpse into the evolution of CZ’s public persona.
Once primarily known for his role in building Binance into one of the world’s largest crypto exchanges, CZ has increasingly used social media to discuss subjects beyond day-to-day crypto markets.
His posts frequently mix cryptocurrency commentary with observations about entrepreneurship, personal development, and lifestyle.
The latest post fits neatly into that broader pattern.
There is also a certain irony in a crypto billionaire telling his followers not to compete on wealth.
But that appears to be precisely the point CZ is making.
Money can be accumulated, ranked, and displayed. Health and family, however, cannot be reduced to a leaderboard.
At 49, CZ appears to be suggesting that the latter may ultimately be the more valuable competition.
