X Reportedly Eyes USDC as an Option for Paying Creators

X is reportedly exploring stablecoins such as USDC as a potential way to pay creators and other content providers on the platform. The discussions remain ongoing, and X has not confirmed that it will adopt USDC for creator payments.

The reported plan comes as X prepares to replace its existing Creator Revenue Sharing programme with a new Original Content Rewards system. That transition could give the platform an opportunity to rethink how it pays creators across different markets.

Circle’s USDC is among the assets reportedly being considered, although there is no confirmation that X has selected the stablecoin. The talks are still at an early stage. X has not announced a launch date, payment structure or technical system for stablecoin payouts. Therefore, creators should not yet expect USDC payments from the platform.

    Why X Could Use Stablecoins

Stablecoins could give X a simpler way to handle payments across borders. Traditional creator payouts can require payment processors, bank transfers and local currency conversions. Those processes can become more complicated when creators live in different countries.USDC, which is designed to maintain a value close to the US dollar, could provide a common digital payment unit.

For X, that could make international payouts easier to manage. For creators, receiving a dollar-linked digital asset could also provide an alternative to local-currency payments in some markets. However, the actual benefits would depend on how X designs the system and which payment partners it uses.

X Is Changing Its Creator Rewards System

The stablecoin discussions come as X changes its creator monetisation model. The platform is winding down its existing Creator Revenue Sharing programme and moving toward Original Content Rewards. The new programme is designed to reward users for original reporting, ideas, expertise, creativity and commentary.

That change could give X more flexibility over how it distributes creator earnings. If stablecoins become part of the new system, blockchain payments could become another layer of X’s broader financial strategy.

Stablecoins Are Moving Into Creator Payments

X would not be the first major social platform to explore stablecoin payouts. Meta began rolling out USDC payouts to selected creators in Colombia and the Philippines earlier in 2026, with Stripe supporting the programme. Eligible creators can link a crypto wallet and receive earnings in USDC on supported blockchain networks.

This development shows how stablecoins are moving beyond crypto trading. Platforms can use them as a payment rail while creators continue to earn money from familiar digital services. The approach could become more attractive as companies look for faster ways to make international payments.

USDC Could Benefit From Wider Creator Adoption

If X eventually chooses USDC, the move could expose more creators to stablecoin payments. X has a large international user base. A stablecoin payout system could therefore create additional demand for digital dollar transactions.

Still, adoption would depend on several factors. Creators would need access to suitable wallets and reliable conversion options. Local regulations could also determine whether creators can receive, hold or convert USDC. Fees and withdrawal options would matter as well.

X Has Not Confirmed a USDC Partnership

It is important to separate the reported discussions from an official product announcement. X has not confirmed that it will use USDC for creator payments. The company has also not announced a specific stablecoin partner or explained how payouts would work.

As a result, the current proposal should be viewed as an exploration rather than a confirmed product launch. The company could still choose another stablecoin or decide to keep creator payments on traditional payment rails.

The Bigger Shift Toward Stablecoin Payments

X’s reported plans fit into a wider move towards stablecoins as payment infrastructure. Financial institutions, fintech companies and technology platforms are increasingly exploring stablecoins for cross-border settlement and digital payments.

Creator payouts offer another potential use case. Instead of using blockchain solely to trade digital assets, platforms can use stablecoins to move ordinary earnings between businesses and individuals. For global platforms, that could become particularly useful where traditional payment systems remain fragmented.

    Editorial Takeaway

X’s reported interest in USDC for creator payments highlights how stablecoins are moving closer to everyday digital commerce. The company has not confirmed the plan, so it is too early to say that X will pay creators in USDC.

Nevertheless, the discussions show that stablecoins are becoming a serious option for global platforms handling international payouts. If X eventually adopts USDC, it could give stablecoin payments another major use case and further connect the creator economy with blockchain-based financial infrastructure.
